0:40 Lee Um, but before we get to that, this is the excitement, now we're doing Mos Eisley, you've got two weeks in which to watch stuff in between.

0:50 Lee But Chris, have you watched anything horror related in the last fortnight?

0:55 Chris I have, following on from the book that Adam got me for Christmas, the Alistair Fawn UFO book and recommend recommendation from Claire to watch Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends, series one, episode two, all about UFOs.

1:08 Chris And that is a very good episode. Now, I'm sure I'm sure most of the episodes are equally good.

1:14 Chris Because I've I've definitely seen a few of these over the years, but I did not remember just how cheeky he is.

1:23 Chris Like, I remembered him as being quite polite and watching this, I was like, no, he's way closer to Ali G in some of the the, you know, cheeky offensiveness that he does.

1:37 Chris Um, so yeah, yeah, like it's it's amazing, you know, some of the people he meets. Um, we had the Thor Templar, the self-titled Lord Commander of the Earth Protectorate.

1:51 Chris That dressed him up with a some sort of headgear connected to this gun that you have to shoot with your mind.

1:56 Chris Um, and of course, no, no aliens turned up, but you know.

2:02 Chris He had a lot it looked like a lot of fun in the windy cold seaside, I think they were at.

2:10 Chris Um, yeah, so, you know, it's so entertaining and so well done. Um, mutilated cows, lovely.

2:19 Chris Um, who else? Oh, Blue Rose Ministry, where he meets the Reverend Robert Sholt, who who actually did quite a good job.

2:31 Chris I mean, it looked like he practiced quite a bit of channeling, I think, you know, some alien being.

2:42 Adam I'm I'm receiving that.

2:45 Adam Oh, God, and and then just that that absolutely lovely bit where he comes out of his trance and says to Louis, I'm sweating.

2:54 Adam Feel my chest, and then just grabs his hand and puts it.

2:59 Chris Yeah, and and that's where.

3:03 Chris Yeah, impressive, uh, hairy chest, full of sweat.

3:08 Chris But yeah, and Louis is like just wiping it, you know, sort of a little a little bit subtly, but not enough for you to not notice the disgust.

3:18 Adam A podgy unfit man in his fifties with a very hairy chest says, oh, I'm sweating, feel that, and you're going, he's going to touch it.

3:27 Lee Oh, yeah, that's not selling it to me.

3:30 Chris Um, but it's it's funny to see who who think like who really believes it, trying to work out, you know, does this person really believe it and how much are they just, you know.

3:39 Chris You it's totally understandable, isn't it? I mean, a village and places with not a lot to their name who have the opportunity to jump at the, you know, massive gold rush that is UFO sightings.

3:52 Chris You can totally understand how you could probably even start off on it and you're like, well, we should do this because, you know, it's good for tourism.

3:59 Chris But then you probably do start to believe it at some point.

4:03 Lee I think it's like we said with the, you remember we, Adam and I watched the Netflix thing where they did, uh, the the little where the the Ghost Hunters got the message saying about the little Martians that were running around that were coming out of the caves.

4:17 Lee Um, yeah, and they basically put all their money into going there and hiring a film crew for six weeks, and then nothing at all happens and they just make shit up.

4:26 Lee Because I'm I'm sure they're not trying to deceive, but they're so desperate to find something, they just keep making something out of absolutely nothing.

4:34 Chris And anything.

4:35 Lee Yeah.

4:36 Chris After be knowing it. Like, you know, you do psychology 101 and you realize brains make up a load of shit.

4:43 Chris that's what we do, we just see patterns in stuff.

4:46 Chris Like, that explains the majority of, you know, the confusing things out there.

4:54 Chris So, you know, it's so good.

5:00 Adam And also you've got the people who are profiteering from the people who clearly believe.

5:06 Adam And that is some whole next-level bastardry.

5:12 Adam like I say, there's a one of the one of the this this couple and they sell loads of anti-alien gear.

5:25 Adam And it's yeah, and they basically it's basically like a light gun off of like off a um console.

5:35 Adam And they've wired it to like a a helmet and it's a gun, doesn't fire any form of projectile or anything, it fires thoughts.

5:44 Adam And that's how and it's one of those wonderful things where it's like, yeah, I suppose you're not going to get any come-backs on this, are you? You know, you can you can make claims with this shit, it's like, oh, yeah, it definitely kills aliens. You know,

6:25 Adam His stuff nowadays is a lot more serious and I must confess, I'm a bit like how people were with Woody Allen, where it's like, you know, I hope they, um,

6:37 Adam Oh, yeah, that's true, there's an end of the world episode, which is like preppers and stuff like that.

6:46 Adam And that, yeah, we're all preppers now.

6:50 Adam Well, that's the thing, you watch that and just go, these fuckers are doing all right at the moment.

7:44 Adam And and none of it sort of, yeah, it's it's definitely it's definitely loses its laugh riot element.

7:53 Chris It's starting to get a bit bit recqium there.

7:55 Adam He did some he did some good, um, like sort of ones where it's with famous people.

8:02 Adam Or like I say, he did one with Jimmy Savile.

8:05 Adam But, um, which is when you watch that before you knew what was going on, you felt that's what's going on from that documentary.

8:14 Adam Because he's like, he just seems to push it the whole fucking time.

8:18 Adam He really does.

8:19 Adam And actually, weirdly enough, there's, um, uh, Sarah, like my sister, has, uh, was has always been like a Louis Theroux fan.

8:29 Adam She had a TV she had a she's got a DVD of the first series of Weird Weekends.

8:36 Adam And, um, there's a commentary well, it's not quite a commentary, you know that thing where you get like a a symbol will come up on a DVD and you press it and it will take you to a cut scene.

8:47 Adam Or it will take you to.

8:48 Adam And what it was is it was basically a commentary of him and Jimmy Savile watching his old Weird Weekends stuff.

8:57 Adam And interestingly enough, Jimmy Savile, the one thing that he's always picking up on is, well, he's a con man.

9:07 Adam He's he's a liar.

9:09 Adam And it's like, yeah, because it takes one.

9:11 Chris You're pretty at this, yeah.

9:13 Adam No, I'm not, did it.

9:14 Adam Yeah, you can you can spot a devious ass ass, I'll fucking 50 paces, mate, so yeah.

9:20 Adam But there's I mean, they're all I mean, there's there's one where he goes and looks at rap, where they actually force him to do a rap.

9:31 Adam Um, there's, um, there's there's a wrestling one where they like he he sort of goes and it's more the sort of, um,

9:39 Adam like the the low-end wrestling, not like WWE or whatever like that, but it's a lot more sort of the the local sort of scene and stuff scenes and things like that of wrestling.

9:53 Adam And, yeah.

9:55 Adam At one point he goes to a sort of boot camp that these wrestlers have and they basically torture him for about for a day.

10:05 Adam By making him.

10:05 Adam Go through all the exercises, basically saying to him, right, you want to tell me the wrestling's fake and we're all we're not proper athletes?

10:12 Adam Right, we'll put you through your paces and everything and it's like, and I mean, it's it's cruel.

10:16 Adam They drive him to the point of being sick, so it's like, you know.

10:19 Chris Yeah.

10:21 Adam There's there's also there's also there's I mean, there's still some ones that they still have a more I I'm loath to say quirky flavor, but it's they're still part of weird weekends.

10:39 Adam Is there's ones where he goes and meets like, um, white supremacists in America and stuff like that.

10:47 Adam But they still have their moments and it's mostly because it'll be weird things like,

10:51 Adam there's one where it's some guy who's going on about, oh, I really like their British, uh, British humor, yeah, I really like. Uh, I watched that, are you being served with Mrs. Slocum and you know, and she's always saying about things and it's hilarious.

11:09 Adam And he just and these are like hardline white supremacists like, you know, hate everyone who's different.

11:20 Chris That's what ones that we're we're getting a few, you know, viewings of currently.

11:24 Adam Well, exactly.

11:25 Adam But but and Louie just says to this guy, so what do you think of Mr. Humphreys?

11:31 Chris Yeah.

11:31 Adam Because obviously like they're, you know, they obviously, you know, they they they're anti-gay as much as anything else. And he's like, and this bloke's like, oh, I I just don't I just don't really watch when he's on.

11:43 Adam And it's like just this sort of weird like all these sort of circles that they have to knot themselves in and stuff like that.

11:52 Adam But even even down when it's like a dispute in like the local KKK group because one of them said, well, no, you shouldn't be doing Nazi salutes, we're not Nazis.

12:04 Adam And it's like this but the whole thing's like, you're going to get us into trouble, people are going to start saying we're Nazis. You're the fucking KKK, you're in trouble.

12:13 Chris Yeah, yeah.

12:15 Adam But yeah, there are and he's he did a Scientology one, which is great.

12:19 Chris Okay.

12:20 Adam That would definitely appeal to you.

12:22 Adam Uh, because he ends up basically he ends up speaking to he was so lucky with this because there was a huge load of, um, documentaries around at the same sort of time about Scientology.

12:36 Adam But he happened to he happened to start doing it just at the point that.

12:41 Adam Basically one of the right-hand men of Scientology defected.

12:47 Chris Okay.

12:48 Adam And basically he goes through with him saying, right, well, these are all the techniques that we do.

12:52 Chris Yeah.

12:53 Adam You know, this is what we do to people, this is how we, you know, how we, um, gangstalk them and.

13:00 Chris That is exactly what you want when you're trying to make a documentary.

13:05 Adam Because this because this guy, not only is he and and you can still see, you know, he is not a nice man is the best way I can put it.

13:15 Adam Um, and although he's defected from the thing, he he still has, you know, you'd imagine that when he was in a position of power.

13:28 Chris Yeah.

13:28 Adam Like if you were in the Church of Scientology, this guy would be like Vader.

13:33 Adam You know, he's.

13:35 Adam You know, everyone shits themselves when he comes into the room type.

13:38 Adam And, um, so but it's really, you know, Louis Theroux has done a lot of really good documentaries. I recommend all the weird weekends essentially.

13:47 Adam There's one where he, uh, he looks at porn and stuff like that.

13:53 Adam Brothel.

13:54 Unknown Oh, yeah, there's.

13:55 Adam There's one where he goes to a mega brothel, there's one where he hangs around with swingers.

13:58 Adam Um, but yeah, no, he gets involved with.

14:02 Adam Yeah.

14:03 Adam But definitely the end of the the, um, well, Clare said the end of the world one, the preppers one.

14:11 Adam Uh, is definitely a watch.

14:14 Adam Um, yeah.

14:17 Lee Adam, have you watched anything apart from uh, every episode of Louis Theroux as I have.

14:21 Adam Well, that that's been an ongoing task, that certainly wasn't in the last.

14:25 Adam That wasn't in the last run. Basically, I lived, obviously, I was living at home, Sarah watched Louis Theroux and would show me all the good stuff.

14:34 Adam And then I moved in with Clare.

14:35 Adam Clare's a massive Louis Theroux fan.

14:38 Adam So that just continued, so it's.

14:40 Adam But it's quite nice that I've had to make no effort to enjoy something that's really fucking good.

14:47 Chris Hmm.

14:47 Adam In as much as other people have done the digging and other people have brought it to me, it was like, oh, yeah, this is just fucking good.

14:52 Adam But, um,

14:53 Adam I have and I'm going to put a bit of a spoiler alert here myself, I'm going to say thank you, Chris, because I did at least this week see a good film.

15:04 Adam Um, which was Night of the Creeps, which I've never fucking seen before and, oh, man.

15:14 Adam Thank you.

15:15 Adam It is fucking marvelous.

15:17 Chris Hmm.

15:17 Adam It really just so.

15:20 Adam Basically, I can see why, um, not for everyone have sampled it all over the show.

15:27 Adam Because it is such a not for everyone film.

15:34 Adam You know, it's just it's all it's all the right boxes of crazy, strange, gory, funny, daft.

15:40 Adam You know, there's, yeah.

15:42 Lee It's it's funny though, so it's obviously it's an 80s film.

15:44 Lee But it was never released on DVD, so everyone was going A-shit for ages about not being able to buy legal copies of it.

15:49 Lee Until it was it was probably only about a decade or so ago it finally came out.

15:54 Lee So I'd heard about it forever and never got a chance to see it because.

15:59 Lee So to get hold of a VHS copy.

16:01 Lee But oh, what an amazing film.

16:03 Adam Yeah.

16:03 Adam With the with the mighty Tom Atkins, I think, you know, at some point we should cover it if only so we can just enjoy thrill me.

16:13 Lee It is a fantastic movie.

16:15 Adam So, so thank you, Chris, that was a a returning on Christmas presents, yeah.

16:22 Adam Fucking great, I just sat there and, um, yeah.

16:26 Adam That that steamrolled over me and it will do again.

16:30 Adam Um, I also having watched it now, I'm a bit more, yeah, I can see what people were talking about with Slither.

16:39 Adam Where it's like, you know, we're sort of like, oh, I didn't really think it was like Night of the Creeps and he's like, didn't you?

16:46 Chris Okay. That's well, well inspired.

16:50 Adam But yeah, even if it it it probably could well be utterly unintentional.

16:57 Adam But if if it is, it's like, yeah, but you've watched this film a lot, haven't you? Because this is now just this is now just the wiring of your brain, that's why it's come out like this, so.

17:08 Chris Well, that that does encourage me, so I look forward to when we cover that.

17:12 Adam I it's it honestly, yeah, um, I was like like Lee said, it's one of those ones that was oddly.

17:20 Adam mythic in so much as it just never seemed to get a release anywhere.

17:24 Adam It was never out, I don't think it was out on video like to buy in the shops.

17:30 Adam I don't even know if it was out rental or, you know, I presume it was at one point.

17:33 Adam But yeah, so it was one that never sort of really came out and then, yeah, in in beautiful Blu-ray. Oh my God.

17:49 Adam Um, also, I mean, obviously, we've got to note there have been we've had a couple of losses, uh, obviously Barbara Shelley died, which is, um, you know, first lady of Hammer.

17:58 Adam A real uh, it's a very much a shame because I mean, she's a brilliant actress.

18:04 Adam And she was so good in those, uh, films, but also, I can't remember this was this is going back a little while now.

18:10 Adam But also, um, Lee, uh, Markie died recently as well, who's the lead in.

18:17 Adam The the nominal lead in Curse of the Crimson Altar.

18:21 Lee Yes.

18:21 Chris Mm.

18:22 Adam Yeah, he died a few weeks back as well.

18:24 Adam So, um, yes.

18:26 Adam Although, unfortunately, I don't want the show to become like my Instagram, which at the moment feels like a fucking obituary column.

18:36 Lee Um, so I've watched a few things in the last couple of weeks.

18:41 Lee Um, notably, I rewatched Cooties from 2014.

18:48 Lee It it it didn't get a very, I don't know, it just I think it was kind of straight to DVD.

18:54 Lee I don't think it had a mainstream release.

18:56 Lee Um, but it's Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson, basically, Elijah Wood is a temporary teacher, he's he's gone back to his hometown, uh, and is living there and the girl who he always fancied is a teacher at the local school.

19:10 Lee He goes back to temp there, uh, and on his first day there, there is a zombie outbreak, but the zombie outbreak only affects children.

19:17 Lee So, uh, so basically, it's all of the teachers have to kill their way out of the school.

19:22 Lee Past all the children, it's absolutely fantastic and hilarious.

19:26 Adam What's that called, sorry, mate?

19:28 Lee Cooties.

19:29 Adam Oh, Cooties, ah.

19:31 Adam Strange enough, never seen the film, I have got the soundtrack though.

19:35 Chris Why, why are we not surprised?

19:36 Lee Yeah.

19:38 Lee Um, but yeah, it it's one of those that just kind of came and went and I've bought it and it sat on the shelf for ages.

19:44 Lee And nobody talks about it and I kind of forgot forgot about it.

19:47 Lee And I watched it one night half pissed and remember quite enjoying it and then I mentioned it last week to Jennifer.

19:52 Lee And he said, yeah, I don't remember that.

19:53 Lee So we dug it out and put it on and, yeah, just had an absolute laugh fest for an hour and a half, it's fantastic.

19:58 Lee It's really good.

19:59 Lee Um, also in contrast to that, not having a laugh riot whatsoever, but again, back to, uh, Christmas presents.

20:16 Lee I I can it it's a fantastic film, I can totally see why it's a cult classic.

20:23 Lee It has got that folk horror, uh, feel to it.

20:27 Lee It's an incredible film.

20:29 Lee But it is funny, if you hadn't said it about it originally being an anthology and then they kind of break the walls down.

20:36 Lee So it doesn't have the anthology feel, but when you watch the separate stories, you're like, yeah, that that feels nothing like what was just happening 20 minutes ago.

20:47 Lee So.

20:48 Adam Yeah.

20:49 Lee Yeah, the opening story of the guy coming home with his wife to be the next day and what happens to her, and then it flipping into them chasing the woman through the forest and throwing her into like it's all completely different.

21:01 Lee But yeah, it's really good.

21:04 Adam It's it's weird because it was only when it was only when I read that.

21:09 Adam That I thought back to it actually and it and it's weird.

21:12 Adam Because it it feels almost like, actually, it feels almost like sort of like the League of Gentlemen where it's like, it's a series of incidents in an area.

21:23 Chris Mm.

21:24 Adam But affecting different groups that don't, it doesn't really mix.

21:30 Adam Like, you know, none of the characters cross over or anything else like that particularly.

21:34 Lee Yeah, with the actual Satan character, he's the kind of through line of them all, which is strange, but.

21:41 Adam Yeah.

21:42 Lee But yeah, it worked really well, I was really I was really pleased I finally got around to seeing it.

21:48 Adam Yeah, it's a it's a cracking, it's again, that's one we need to cover.

21:52 Lee I mean, I'm sure.

21:53 Chris Yeah, I'm it sounds like we will.

21:55 Adam I think, well, also, because you've got, um, oh, uh, what's it called?

22:02 Adam Because obviously you've got, uh, the Wicker Man.

22:06 Adam But really, I think I think Blood on Satan's Claw is probably, um, it's the only folk horror that really goes off of the big ones that are always listed.

22:20 Adam Which is Wicker Man, Blood on Satan's Claw and, um, Witchfinder General.

22:25 Adam It's the only one that does actually have a supernatural element to it.

22:33 Adam You know.

22:33 Adam So I like I think I like it above those just in that sort of sense.

22:41 Lee Yeah.

22:41 Adam That there is yeah, yeah, just a bit more sort of actual ancient evil rather than just people evil.

22:49 Lee Yeah.

22:51 Lee Yeah, definitely.

22:53 Lee Fantastic movie.

22:57 Lee Um, so for New Year's Eve, obviously, because we're all in lockdown, nobody was going out. Um, so I watched the Cornetto Trilogy, which of course starts with Shaun of the Dead.

23:09 Lee Yeah, and I've not I didn't realize until I sat down to watch it, I've probably not seen that film in seven or eight years, I think it's one of those I kind of watched to death a bit and then didn't watch it for ages.

23:20 Lee But now going back and rewatching it, especially with all three, um, yeah, totally loved it, such a classic.

23:26 Lee Um,

23:27 Lee and then today just very quickly, I saw a film called Scare Package.

23:32 Adam Okay.

23:32 Lee low budget indie horror, well, mainly low budget indie horror, it does have a couple of people in it, you'll recognize.

23:38 Lee Um, but yeah, seven short stories, seven directors, out of the seven stories, six of them are good and one of them's a bit, huh?

23:46 Lee but yeah, it's well worth watching, really good fun, really really funny, like, definitely more comedy horror.

23:55 Lee Um, but yeah, it goes on that like super splutter fest, people literally turning into on screen, turning into puddles of goop and.

24:04 Lee Yeah, just crazy nonsense, totally loved it.

24:06 Lee So, uh, yeah.

24:20 Lee I did mention to Chris just before we started recording, um, the other things I've watched in the last fortnight is Scream two, three and four, which we watched back-to-back last weekend.

24:32 Chris It gives us a hint of how much you liked Scream.

24:34 Lee I am the king of Scream now.

24:36 Lee Well, as as I say, I watched Scream two, three months ago, uh, which is when I discussed it with Adam and he went, oh, we need to put that on the list, so we have.

24:45 Lee Um, but yeah, so I thought I would come back and watch it, but I thought I'd rather watch two, three and four.

24:50 Lee And if I don't get back to rewatch it, I'll remember it well enough.

24:54 Lee Um, but yeah, I did I rewatched it this afternoon, so.

24:58 Lee Oh, it's good.

24:59 Lee So,

25:00 Lee Chris, was this your first viewing of Scream or did you see it when it first came out?

25:04 Chris I did see it when it first came out, so I think this was one where it was a, you know, going to the cinema, quite a few of us went.

25:12 Chris Um, sort of happened, you know, two or three times a year, I suppose.

25:15 Chris With big films and I remember this standing out as something big. I've forgotten that it was Wes Craven.

25:22 Chris I know we mentioned that recently at the time, I probably did know it.

25:27 Chris And, um, you know, I'd I'd seen I'd seen at least one, maybe two Nightmare on Elm Streets.

25:47 Chris But what's really funny, now, I'll say straight out, yeah, fantastic, um, so well constructed, so entertaining, great balance of some comedy, entertainment, some depth, you know, elements of serious sort of story behind it.

26:00 Chris And also the mystery trying to work out the motives, you know, all of that's great.

26:05 Chris And then, of course, the self-referential or, um, yeah, and tons of references, which I now recognize a lot more of, which was great.

26:14 Chris But yeah, but what was really funny is watching it for this is not a second time, and knowing the main twist, but still, it still really worked as being very entertaining.

26:28 Chris Like, even though you know who it is, seeing the way that they act throughout, it's like, it's still kind of plausible, you know, I mean, some of it is far-fetched, um, but ultimately, yeah, I was still surprised at just how well it worked, even though I knew what was going to happen.

26:41 Adam I think that's a testament to Wes Craven, more than anything.

27:04 Adam Um, with any horror movie franchise, it's really rare that it, you know, a director.

27:10 Adam Especially, like, a director then does it to maintain, as well, which is very, which is quite unusual.

27:18 Adam Because a lot of the time it's like, the sequel gets brought up.

27:22 Adam And like the director can't be asked, they're doing something else and they're not interested in doing anything more with it.

27:26 Adam Whereas I think Scream does give you that opportunity because it is reflexive, because I think because I seem to remember enjoying.

27:36 Adam the second one more, I've only I've only watched Scream this time, but because at that point they really go whole hog.

27:48 Adam If I remember rightly, because that's when they're within the film, there is a film called Stab and and it's based on it's based on the real murders.

28:02 Adam Um, and even down to the fact that there's in this, Neve Campbell has the line about probably Tory Spelling would play me.

28:17 Adam And I think at that point, I I I enjoyed that more because I think it's again, it's the thing of I think I'll be honest, I've watched this, it left me really cold.

30:17 Chris And and I think, uh, I think it was also kind of funny so I've seen Scary Movie a few times and so in my head, I was kind of remembering elements of that.

31:48 Adam So and the whole point of it is the comment on what it is.

31:55 Adam Essentially, yeah, so Scary Movie is a satire of a satire, essentially.

31:59 Adam And but I think they got around that by just putting loads of weed and.

32:07 Adam That's probably the safest bet, you know, it's like, well, we can we can there's this really sophisticated parody that it blurs between being an actual horror movie and a comment on horror movies.

32:14 Adam But we should still do a parody of it because it's the most like it's the biggest film of the year and it's like, yeah, so we'll just put butt and nob gags in.

34:47 Adam That Scream gets the plodits while loads of people say uh Wes Craven's New Nightmare shit.
