Ep 105 Suspiria
This week is a full on assault of the senses with Dario Argento’s classic “Suspiria”. A film in which there are more Nazi references than an online argument; soundtrack maestros Goblin have bought…
1 film covered on the show
Adam says he loves Dario Argento and thinks his films are beautifully shot. Adam sees a strong Hitchcock influence in his work, the flary side of Hitchcock.
He calls Suspiria Argento's first supernatural film, and thinks his partner's input pushed him towards the more interesting area of his work. Adam adores Goblin, who did a few soundtracks for Argento. Jennifer recalls a running joke on the show that, in a quiz, if in doubt the answer was always Dario Argento.
In their own words
Adam I love Dario Argento. I just like to put that out, but uh, yes, description is pretty fairly.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam I believe like his dad was a producer and stuff like that. So I think the Argentos have been quite a big family as it was. Um like within Italian cinema and then Dario Argento sort of came along and was just um and again. It was even the the slasher stuff, it looks incredible. And it's shot you know, it's it's beautifully brilliantly shot and stuff like that.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam A lot a lot of it comes from I think Dario Argento's quite into was very heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam But I mean, and so but he was part of a this is his first supernatural uh film.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam And when I told it to Dario, it was a natural for him to fall in love with two. It was his first step from thrillers to fantasy, alchemy movies and we did it together. And so really, I think she she was the one that pushed it into what I think is the more interesting area of Dario Argento's work. Um but also the finale came from a dream that she had. Where she encountered an invisible witch and then a panther in the room exploded.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam Yeah, I I mean Goblin, I absolutely fucking adore. They did they did a a few soundtracks for um. Argento. Sorry. I'm going to do it.
Ep 105 SuspiriaJennifer Yes, I mean, usually it always used to be a running joke, didn't it? That if in doubt, the answer was always Dario Argento.
Ep 150 GothAdam And finally got the chance to, finally got the chance to see it because they've released it on Blu-ray. And, my God, it is the most Italian film made in America that I've ever seen, it it feels it's got that sort of Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava sort of like I I can't even explain it. It's just it feels like it it definitely feels like Dario Argento made the film. But everyone's no one's dubbed, people are actually genuinely speaking English and it was filmed in America and yeah. It's just but it just feels.
Ep 182 We have been watchingAdam And um but I mean the reason we were covering it is because um. Uh Dar Dario Nicodi died uh a couple of weeks ago. And she was Dario Argento's long-time partner and their daughter Aziato is obviously. Like a a famous actress. Um and um. But yeah, she um she appeared in a lot of Dario Argento's films, she's in she's in mother of tears and Opera and Phenomena and Tenebrae and stuff. And she started she first film she did was Deep Red Deep Red and she's great in that. Um and uh.
Ep 105 SuspiriaAdam Especially that time you won when it was can you name the what's the real name of the victim known as the Black Dahlia? You said Dario Argento and you won.
