Unknown Talk about Star Wars.
Adam Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and all those in between, and welcome to The Mos Eisley Happy Hour.
Unknown Yay.
Adam Right up front, spoilers and swearing, you've been fucking warned.
Adam So, yeah, I'd usually forget to do it, we've usually sworn a lot of things before we get to that point, so I've brought it straight in up front.
Adam And, uh, I am Adam and I am joined by, uh, Wesley.
Wesley Hello.
Adam Chris.
Chris Hello.
Adam And Lee.
Lee Ahoy hoy.
Adam Ooh. And.
Adam We are here today, we have we have we have gone through the prequels.
Adam And now it's a time when we move sideways.
Adam Where we shall be look we shall be looking at Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Adam So, yeah, batten down the hatches, lube up the grommets.
Adam Uh, place a bag of chips on the engine to keep them warm just like in on the buses.
Adam And, uh, uh, yes, uh, we are we are here, so.
Adam Um, gentlemen, we shall before we crack in, has anyone been watching.
Adam Or getting involved in a Star Warsy way, uh, since our last meeting, uh, Chris.
Adam What about you, sir?
Chris Oh, yeah.
Chris Yes.
Chris Um, we have finished rewatching The Mandalorian, and of course I still can't say too much.
Chris Um, but safe to say, I possibly enjoyed it even more on the second watching, because, um, I there was no distractions this time.
Chris We were watching it at prime time once the kids were asleep.
Chris There it was just straight in there and, yeah, on the big screen.
Chris Big sounds, it was very good.
Chris And, uh, I'd also read after watching it the first time, I'd read a little bit about it, and somebody suggested there's going to be a season three.
Chris Now, I don't think this is a spoiler to discuss that.
Chris Does anyone else think there is?
Chris Is it they suggested it was really obvious, and I thought, is it?
Chris So.
Chris And watching it again, I'm still not sure.
Adam I, I have heard that they said.
Adam Because I know I know there was to be something else continue from it.
Chris Definitely something else, but.
Adam But.
Chris It looked like it was going to be a totally different.
Lee It's a yeah.
Lee It's.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So all right, well, that's definitely running separate to this.
Chris Oh, okay.
Adam So, because I think there's going to be a big time jump between.
Lee Ah.
Adam Okay.
Chris I see.
Adam That's what I've heard.
Chris Okay.
Chris Well, that's good.
Chris I.
Chris I look forward to it, yeah, I didn't look into it in any more detail, just I thought, hold on, surely there isn't.
Chris And then after watching it again, I still thought, I'm still not sure.
Chris It's a great, I thought it was a great end, and so, yeah.
Chris Adam, you've still got that to look forward to, haven't you?
Adam Yes.
Adam I've been watching I've I'm continuing my, um, my catch up on that.
Adam Um, I've just done the I've just done the Seven Samurai episode where they turn up at Fishing Village and help them out.
Chris Ah, yes.
Lee Oh, yeah.
Adam And so, you know, so I'm still quite early days.
Chris I, I really liked the way they showed the AT-ST.
Chris I'm sure everybody did, but, you know, proper evil looking.
Adam It does look great.
Adam Yeah.
Adam With the because this is something and it's a weird thing, and it's it does.
Adam Sort of also coalesce into Solo.
Chris Hmm.
Adam What what I do like with The Mandalorian and what what I do like with Solo is.
Adam The opportunity of not necessarily doing a Star Wars film.
Chris Yeah, yeah, definitely.
Adam Like so we can do a Western using Star Wars.
Chris Yeah.
Adam Or we could do a heist movie using Star Wars or whatever like that.
Adam And I was thinking what they really need to do is they need to do a horror movie using Star Wars.
Chris Yeah.
Adam There's definitely something in that.
Adam And certainly that AT-ST because that felt like when you're in, um, like in Dr. No where it's like, oh, everyone's afraid of the dragon and it's a armored tank with lights.
Adam You know, it's riding around on the beach, but everyone calls it a dragon because it's got a flame thrower on it.
Adam And I think it's, yeah, the same sort of thing where it's just like, something coming out of the woods with glowing red eyes, and, yeah, and they've already shown that they've already sort of flagged it by saying, oh, you know, this has come this way.
Adam But it still looked impressive coming through the crashing through the trees at them, definitely.
Adam Um, because and that was the one thing that did I was thinking is that, you know, they there is so many other genres that I'd like to see.
Chris Hmm.
Adam Like them tackle or not necessarily genres, but just stories and you can do them outside of the saga.
Chris Yeah, it's potentially all there.
Chris You know, because the whole the universe is so big, they could bring in all sorts, yeah, definitely.
Chris Um, and just briefly, um, we started watching Rebels with my son.
Chris Um, so we've seen episode one, which, yeah, so far he was definitely entertained, and I was happy watching it.
Adam That's the animated one.
Lee Oh, yeah.
Chris Yeah, that's it. I mean, on top, you know, after having watched The Mandalorian, things, you know, there's a contrast.
Chris It's it's not quite up to that level, but it's still, yeah, very good for something that's obviously aimed more at kids.
Adam So, is is it better than the eighties and nineties Ewoks cartoon?
Chris I haven't seen those, so I can't comment on that yet.
Adam All right, well.
Adam Believe me, you are not missing much.
Adam That also suddenly I did suddenly think in the week, I was like, suddenly out of nowhere I remembered that there was the cartoon Droids as well.
Adam With C-3PO and R2 and I was like, I can't even.
Adam I can't even begin to remember because it was, oh, look, people have done Ewoks, they've done this.
Adam And it's like, well, it's all Star Wars for a start, and also this seems a bit more, well, a bit less shit.
Adam It's the politest way of putting it, I think.
Lee It's the way it's not bad.
Adam Didn't Boba Fett show up in Droids?
Adam I think he might have done.
Lee I'm not sure about that, but I know Stormtroopers did.
Adam Who did, sorry?
Lee Stormtroopers.
Lee There was random Stormtroopers in it, but.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So I knew that, yeah, there was sort of, yeah, it felt more that it had a link because basically the Ewoks one was gummy bears but with a brand name that wasn't Star Wars.
Adam You know.
Lee Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So, uh, Lee, have you been doing anything.
Adam Star Warsy related other than polishing your absolutely superb lightsaber?
Lee Um.
Lee No.
Lee Is the short answer, I'm afraid.
Lee I'd like to have done, but I've I've just had one of those.
Lee It sort of dawned on me on Wednesday, I was like, it can't have been two weeks since we last recorded, so what are we supposed to be covering this week?
Lee And I was like.
Lee Shit, no, it is and I, you know, luckily I I only saw this film about.
Lee Oh, maybe two months ago, which is when we were first talking about possibly doing it.
Adam Ah.
Lee And I was still glad to go and have another opportunity to rewatch it, and Jennifer watched it as well, so that's a good thing.
Lee Um, but, yeah, no.
Chris Was that her first watch?
Lee Uh, no, no, she's seen it.
Chris In the cinema.
Lee So somebody.
Chris Okay.
Lee Jennifer doesn't like to rewatch things, she's one of these people once she's seen something, she's like, apart from Rocky Horror for some reason, she's like, once I've seen something, unless it's really, really exceptional.
Lee I don't need to see it, and I definitely don't need to see it again within a decade, certainly.
Lee Um.
Chris And arguably she's not the biggest Star Wars fan.
Lee No.
Lee But she has rewatched, she has watched all the films along with us so far.
Lee Um.
Lee Yeah, so that's a that's a sign of how much it's enjoyed in this household.
Adam And Wiz.
Adam Have you been have you been, uh, doing any more Star Wars studies or what have you been watching, sir?
Wesley Um, not much, I had my vaccine and it made me feel a bit rough, so.
Lee Oh.
Wesley Oh.
Adam At least you've had it, though, sir.
Chris Good to hear.
Wesley Yeah, I've had the first part, so, yeah.
Wesley And then I got, um, the Doctor Who game on the Oculus.
Wesley So I've been playing that.
Adam Hmm.
Lee Ah.
Chris Are you inserting your saber to Doctor Who?
Adam Yeah.
Wesley Yeah.
Adam Oh, that's.
Wesley Oh, he's.
Adam Go on.
Adam No, I was going to say.
Adam Just you combine combine the rough feeling with the vaccine with the Oculus and you know, that'd been a fairly trippy evening, I'd imagine.
Wesley I first noticed it, I'd had the vaccine, I'd come back, I did stuff for a couple of hours and I was fine.
Wesley Then all of a sudden, I put that on, I was trying to dodge some Weeping Angels and then all of a sudden, I just felt sick as a dog.
Wesley And that was it, three days.
Chris You thinking these Weeping Angels, they're really done something with these.
Chris They are working.
Adam This this is this is impressive game, it's made all the hair stand up on the back of me arse.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Well, I think that's I think that's that's, uh, that's a worthy assessment because it is we do we do tend to restrict ourselves.
Adam We're it's like, is it Star Wars related? No, shut up then.
Adam Full.
Adam Old fool.
Adam But, um, yes, so.
Adam On to Solo.
Adam Now, obviously, this is my first experience of having seen the film, um, who saw it at the cinema?
Adam Ah.
Adam So, everyone.
Adam Fair enough.
Lee Chris and I saw it together, it came out on my birthday.
Lee Which.
Adam Oh, yes.
Lee Yeah.
Lee What more did I need?
Lee And it was the week after Deadpool 2 had come out.
Lee So I booked my birthday off work.
Lee I went with Chris in the I actually, no, I didn't.
Lee I went with Chris and we watched Deadpool 2.
Chris Yeah, that's right.
Lee Then Chris left and I went in on my own and watched Solo.
Lee Um, and I said, if it hadn't been my birthday and I know that Jennifer was cooking my favorite meal, I would have gone back to the foyer, bought a second ticket and gone in and rewatched it again.
Lee Spoiler alert, I love the shit out of this film.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So, I, yes.
Adam And funnily enough because this this was something that I'd been.
Adam Well.
Adam So, it's not that long ago, it's 2018.
Chris Yeah.
Adam And a year that I am going to call plastics and poisons, because that seems to be the two main issues that were going on at the time.
Adam You've got Donald Trump in charge of the States.
Adam Theresa May, not that one, is the Prime Minister here.
Adam And, uh, yes, so, over the course of the year, the UK and other countries start banning the use of plastic micro beads in cosmetics, and then that later extends to straws and Q-Tips.
Adam Although it doesn't matter that McDonald's have given you a paper straw now because you've still got a plastic lid, work that one out. So, you know, I don't know what the plastic lid, that's absolutely fine, turtles can swallow that, no problem.
Lee I've or plastic beer.
Adam Yeah, exactly, it's all fine.
Adam Be fine.
Adam Be fine.
Adam You know.
Lee Yeah.
Lee It'll go.
Adam The UK becomes embroiled in the Windrush scandal.
Adam I mean, for fuck's sake.
Adam Um, SpaceX conducts its maiden flight of the Falcon Heavy rocket, and I can only assume that, you know, that that has a bearing on.
Adam You've called it the Falcon and it goes into space, we know what's happening here, guys, come on.
Adam So, I mean it's it's one it's one it's wonderful when nerds are allowed to nerds or geeks are allowed to go full reign.
Adam It's like.
Adam Called the Falcon Heavy.
Adam Um.
Adam London's murder rate exceeds New York.
Adam Ha!
Adam In your face, America, that's right.
Lee Yeah.
Adam The sugar tax on drinks comes into force.
Adam In March, former Russian double agent Sergey Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, are poisoned in Salisbury with the nerve agent Novichok. A week a week later, political asylum seeker, Russian businessman Nikolai Glushkov, whose extradition back to Russia was refused in 2017, is found inexplicably strangled in his London home.
Adam The Russian government and the Kremlin deny all involvement.
Adam And that's fair enough, because it's clearly the fucking Dagenham Girl Pipers, isn't it?
Adam That's what that's what it came over.
Adam Who you bloody kidding?
Adam I mean, when when they say no and then do a little cheeky smile.
Adam Was that a cheeky smile?
Adam No.
Adam And they did it again.
Chris Vladamir seems so trustworthy.
Adam And then in July, a man finds a discarded perfume bottle in Salisbury.
Adam Gives it in a bin.
Adam Um, gives it to his partner, she sprays it on her wrist and becomes immediately ill and dies within 15 minutes.
Adam And the bottle turns out to be the, uh, what they've been using to spread the Novichok about.
Adam And the bottle actually contained enough poison to kill thousands.
Adam So, yeah, there we go.
Lee They're quite cagey, though, isn't it?
Adam It's.
Adam I tell you, actually, if you do want to laugh, though, the two guys who they suspected of doing that, there's a lovely interview with them where, why were you in Salisbury at this time?
Adam And it's two burly Russian agents essentially reading the Wikipedia page back that they've read.
Adam They're like, We understand it has a very tall church spire.
Adam That is over 15 feet from the roof and, uh, yeah, so, so that's fun.
Adam Apart from the dead people.
Adam Um.
Adam Saudi Arabia, that forward thinking progressive nation allows women to drive for the first time.
Adam And they opened cinemas for the first time since 1983.
Chris What what more could you ask for?
Adam And the first film they brought in was Black Panther.
Adam So.
Lee What?
Adam No idea.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Prince Harry marries Meghan Markle, he's not dressed as a Nazi this time, though.
Adam And neither is she, so, you know, that's progress.
Lee They, isn't it?
Adam Yes.
Adam And Edward David Thomas was born during the hottest fucking May on record.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And Toys R Us closes and childhood ends.
Lee Oh.
Adam But.
Wesley The end when Zodiac Toys shut down, though.
Adam Oh, no, that's true.
Adam Zodiac Toys, oh, I miss you.
Adam Oh, he was there, he was there, he was needed.
Adam In film, 2018 is actually pretty fucking good for film.
Adam You've got, uh, Mandy, Insidious The Last Key, An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, Lords of Chaos, Winchester, the Cloverfield Paradox, Black Panther as we mentioned, Annihilation, Red Sparrow, the Death of Stalin, the Reboot of Tomb Raider, Cargo, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Isle of Dogs, Ready Player One, A Quiet Place, You Were Never Really Here, Rampage, Super Troopers 2.
Adam I mean, he said Super Poopers 2, but that's a totally different film that came out a different year.
Adam Uh, Avengers Infinity War, Revenge, Deadpool 2, like you said.
Adam First Reformed, Upgrade, Oceans 8, Hereditary, Hotel Artemis, Incredibles 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Possum.
Adam The First Purge, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Sorry to Bother You, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Mission Impossible: Fallout, BlackKkKlansman, Crazy Rich Asians, The Nun, High Life, The Predator, In Fabric, Hell House LLC 2, The Abaddon Hotel.
Adam The House with a Cock in its Walls, Bros, After the Screaming Stops.
Adam Venom, A Star Is Born, Happy New Year, Colin Burstead, Bad Times at the El Royale, Halloween.
Adam Suspiria, Bohemian Rhapsody, Slaughterhouse Rules, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Adam Um.
Adam Uh, Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse, Aquaman, Bumblebee and Holmes and Watson, which I do remember Lee's review was fucking shite.
Lee Yeah.
Lee A film so bad I had to watch it three times.
Lee I kept going, I must have missed something, it can't have been as crap as I'm convinced it just was.
Lee Let me watch it again.
Lee No, it was definitely shit.
Adam Every single time.
Wesley Each times for each of your eyes.
Chris There were a few good ones in that list.
Adam Yeah, there's some good ones, there's I mean, there's some in there as well.
Adam But you know, I just mentioned all the big ones.
Chris Did you say a house with with a cock in its walls?
Adam I did.
Adam And I apologize for that.
Adam It's the it's the House with the Clock in its Walls, I think.
Chris Oh, right.
Adam But.
Adam I couldn't help myself, it's like last time when it was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, you know, I can't stop myself if it's going to be a bit crude.
Lee I really like the House with the Clock in the Walls.
Lee It's, uh, Jack Black and it's good wholesome fun, but it is.
Adam Yeah, I've never seen it, so, but I've heard.
Lee It's got some really sinister shit in it, it's well worth your time.
Lee Um.
Lee Yeah, it's pretty it's quite a it's a good Halloween movie.
Lee Um, because although I don't think it's that hell, oh, no, I think there is a bit of Halloween.
Lee Like he's always got Jack-o'-lanterns out and it's yeah, it's all wizardy and it's good, it's good fun.
Adam Right.
Adam Uh, on TV, Jodie Whittaker debuts as the 13th Doctor.
Adam You've got Bodyguard, Killing Eve, Black Earth Rising, A Very British Scandal.
Adam A lot of one-off stuff that was actually genuinely really good.
Adam Uh, Mortar and White House Gone Fishing, Kunk on Britain, The City and the City.
Adam Hang Ups, Black Mirror Bandersnatch, which obviously was a bit of a game changer that and then the game never turned up.
Lee Oh.
Adam Um.
Adam Unfortunately, also.
Adam The Circle and Big the Big Nasty Show came on.
Adam Fuck, shite.
Adam Um, but also Robot Wars, Room 101 and The X Factor finished in 2018.
Lee Oh.
Adam And I can honestly say with regards to The X Factor, I had a look at the music.
Adam The singles, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, Calvin fucking Harris, Clean Pissin' Bandit.
Adam Jess Poxy Glenn, it's fucking dreadful.
Adam The albums the album charts, couldn't find a fucking thing worth mentioning.
Adam And I can only I can only surmise that The X Factor stopped because Simon Cowell realized he had just irrevocably fucked music.
Lee Ha.
Adam He's like, what is the point in me pissing into this bag anymore because it is now split and gone all over them.
Adam And and again, what I can only describe as almost like in protest about the music charts.
Adam In deaths, we have Mark E. Smith, Aretha Franklin.
Adam But also Stan Lee, Stephen Hawking and Ken Dodd.
Adam Which admittedly is a panel at Comic Con that I would have loved to have seen.
Adam And that is 2018.
Adam Yeah.
Adam I've also.
Adam So, my initial thoughts on this because I hadn't seen Solo and there was a part of me that was like, right, if I remember rightly, there was obviously this came out after Last Jedi.
Adam And Last Jedi obviously was a massively sort of divisive film in that lots of people were just like, this is shit, this is not Star Wars.
Adam And then it got to the point of.
Adam We're starting a petition online to get them to remake it because it wasn't.
Adam It's like.
Adam Who A, who the fuck are you?
Adam B, who the fuck do you think you are?
Adam And C, get fucking real.
Adam You know.
Adam And I think and there was a part of me and I think then Solo came out, which was a lot better received.
Adam Uh, amongst the Star Wars fan base.
Adam And so there was a part of me that was like, did I not watch Solo because I was just very pissed off that it was like, well, if all these people who were fucking moaning about Last Jedi liked it, and then they really liked Solo, I'm not going to watch it.
Adam And then I looked at the release date and realized it was like five days before Ted was born.
Adam And bearing in mind that like it's only this year that really I've been able to get back on track of actually watching anything.
Adam In any considered way.
Adam Without having the excuse of a podcast.
Lee Yeah.
Adam Is the best way of putting that.
Adam Yeah.
Adam The the fact and both me and Clare were saying this that it was just like, yeah, this is like the first sort of time in Ted's since since Ted's been around where that has been a possibility.
Adam Somewhere between the child is up every three hours and, Jesus Christ, he slept all night, why am I still tired?
Adam So it's.
Chris You're not selling this parenting thing very well, Adam.
Adam Oh, no.
Adam It's I refuse to I refuse to lure people into the trap, Chris.
Adam I think it's cruel.
Adam So.
Adam You know.
Adam Run.
Adam Run.
Adam But, um.
Adam Save yourselves.
Adam But, yeah, so I now realize that the reason I didn't see Solo is that there was no fucking way on Earth that was ever going to have been possible at that very moment.
Lee Yeah.
Adam So I was then sort of like, okay, so, yeah, that was clearly that's clearly the main reason why I hadn't seen Solo before.
Adam And getting the opportunity to watch it, I can see.
Adam Yes, I mean, it is probably better than Last Jedi.
Adam But certainly, I can understand it's a fucking Star Wars film.
Adam It it everything feels right.
Adam It has that Mandalorian thing.
Adam Of just like, oh, no, this is clearly the this clearly is the right universe.
Lee Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam You know, I'm not in Star Trek, I'm not in something else, this is this is the Star Wars universe.
Adam And it's beyond like knowing planet names.
Adam Or stuff like that.
Adam It's like, yeah, we all know that Han Solo was a smuggler from Corellia.
Adam But it's sort of like, you know, that wasn't the big deal about it, the fact that it felt like it was part of the Star Wars universe.
Lee No, yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And so I think it's like I say, I'm I really like this thing now of they can do any form of film within the Star Wars universe.
Adam And I was sitting there thinking this and the one the one film I was like, oh, yeah, you could do definitely do horror.
Adam Um, I reckon you could do quite a good sci-fi film out of Star Wars.
Adam You know.
Adam Something about it.
Adam Possibly, yeah, some something like that.
Adam You know, one of them spacey things.
Adam Um, and then I was like, oh, I'd love to see a see a Star Wars comedy.
Adam And then I was like, no.
Adam Because that is that that has always been the blocking for me.
Adam Is there is, I don't know what it is and I'll be please I'll be so pleased to go back and watch the original trilogy because they have funny moments.
Adam But it's sort of in my head, it's born out of character.
Adam Rather than let's create a funny character.
Lee Yeah.
Adam You know, I mean, C-3PO is clearly a comic sort of.
Chris It is light relief.
Adam Yeah.
Chris And you laugh at him a bit, but, yeah, it's not quite comedy.
Adam He's.
Adam Yeah.
Adam So, and the solo.
Chris They tried with Jar Jar Binks and failed miserably.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Lee Solo originally was aiming to be like a buddy cop film.
Lee And that's why it went for a change of director and, well, it was basically rewritten from the ground up, using only a few shots of what originally was shot.
Chris That's interesting, I didn't realize until watching it this time that it was Ron Howard who directed it.
Lee Yeah.
Chris So it's almost could have been as close to a comedy as.
Chris Uh, but it is definitely very lighthearted on on the whole, I think there's a few bits where it gets deeper.
Adam It I think it gets deeper where it needs to be necessary.
Chris Hmm.
Adam And the one thing that I came away with this because at first I was very as I'm watching it, I'm very unsure and it's obviously the thing that it's, you know, Han Solo is a beloved character portrayed by.
Chris It's it's risky.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And I'm so and but and it is it something that George Lucas has just ingrained in me, I don't know, but as soon as Chewbacca turned up, I was all in.
Adam Because because I got Han and Chewie from them.
Chris Hmm.
Lee Yeah.
Chris that was one of the points I put was I really liked the way their relationship developed over from from obviously the fight, which is kind of funny.
Chris I I didn't know anything about that and so, I mean, I don't know if anyone else knew that was in there.
Chris I had no idea how they met.
Adam I I assumed up until I saw a foot coming out of the mud, I assumed I was like.
Adam Oh, so, right.
Adam So we're doing a rancor bit, are we?
Adam And then.
Adam And then it and actually I tell you what, how fucking badass does Chewie look.
Chris Yeah, yeah.
Adam Like in his wild mud Viking form.
Chris It's it's a bit like, a bit like we said about the AT-ST looking evil.
Chris Like if that was bearing down on you, it would do.
Chris And if you saw Chewie angry, he would look pretty terrifying, and it's just that we're so used to him being a cuddly carpet that, you know.
Adam Well, he's your co-pilot and your pet, you know, it's quite it's quite an amazing sort of feeling.
Adam And actually I have to say, top marks that he rips someone's fucking arms off.
Chris Yeah.
Adam Which actually I that gave me a pause for a moment, I was like, this this they've done that in.
Adam They've done that in this film.
Adam This is not a a grown-up's film.
Adam You know what I mean, it's you know, it's much the same as it's like, let's face it, The Mandalorian is not going to have explicit sex scenes.
Adam Or, uh, you know.
Adam Like or or what could be construed as heavy drug use.
Adam I'm assuming that at some point there would be an annoying one where it's like.
Adam Oh, this is what crack is called in the Star Wars universe.
Adam But it also makes you Yes, yes.
Chris Yes.
Adam Yes.
Chris Yes.
Adam Oh, yeah, that.
Chris I think in Jabba's Palace they have a certain amount of, um, what should probably be considered drug-like smoking and.
Adam Yeah, that's true.
Adam I mean, Jabba was always on the.
Chris Jabba was always on the something.
Adam Yeah.
Lee Got the hooker thing, yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam But.
Chris And just I was just going to say.
Chris About the comedy, the closest I've seen, um, was a Phineas and Ferb.
Chris I don't know if you've watched any of those yet.
Adam I really fucking need to because all anyone ever says.
Adam Phineas and Ferb, if you like Doctor Who, watch Phineas and Ferb, and also the amount of times that like.
Adam Most of the cast of Rocky Horror have been in it.
Chris Hmm.
Chris Oh, that's interesting.
Adam You know, that's quite that's quite.
Chris I didn't know much about Phineas and Ferb and I'd sort of seen it, you know, flicking through.
Chris Um, whatever it was on, might have been Netflix at one point.
Chris Anyway, and then I saw the Star Wars version they did.
Chris And so I said to Toby, look, you can't watch Star Wars yet because it's still a bit too adult, this was several years ago.
Chris I said, but look, let's give this a go.
Chris And it was just perfect because it entertained him because he wasn't really that into Star Wars at the time, but it had enough of Star Wars in it, and just I thought they did such a good way of spoofing it in while still sort of feeling like it was came from a, you know, a good place.
Chris So I I think that's definitely worth putting on your list to watch with Ted at some point.
Adam Well, definitely.
Adam I will have.
Adam Yeah.
Adam I will have to check it out.
Adam On on a similar on on a similar tactic, I would say also.
Adam Um, if you've not seen Robot Chicken Star Wars.
Chris Hmm.
Adam Um, which you which you probably which I will say you can't watch with Toby.
Chris But.
Adam Yeah.
Chris Yeah, that's good.
Adam That's that's that same thing of watching something where you're like, yeah, you absolutely love this.
Lee Yeah.
Adam And, yes, you are ripping the piss out of bits of it, but, yeah, this this this this is this is love that can only come from, you know, obsession.
Adam Um.
Adam But, um.
Adam Yeah, I I so, yeah, I mean, all all over I would say actually, that's the other thing of like you're saying about sort of cartoons and humor and everything else like that.
Adam As soon as I realized we were moving into heist movie territory, I did turn to Claire and just say, you son of a bitch, I'm in.
Lee Yeah.
Adam Because of Rick and Morty.
Adam But.
Adam Um.
Lee And I've got to say, actually, um, what what you something that you've mentioned, Adam, you're saying about him doing about Han Solo obviously being such a beloved character.
Lee I felt the same, like I I felt genuine trepidation going into the cinema to watch this, because I was like.
Lee I really like this character, I really like what Disney have done with the Star Wars films.
Lee Um.
Lee But, yeah, I was like, this could be, is it what I was worried about was, it was a lesser known actor as well, Arden Ehrenreich.
Chris Yeah.
Lee And I was concerned that he might do effectively, we were going to have two hours and 15 minutes of somebody doing an impression.
Lee Of which was what worried me.
Lee But what I felt with this was, he managed to get his mannerisms and his facial expressions and his movements, and he got him so perfect, but he made them feel entirely natural.
Lee None none of it felt staged or put on, but he he he felt like him 10 years before, so perfectly.
Lee I was absolutely blown away by his performance.
Chris I think you're right about that. I think he also kind of it progressed over the film.
Chris In a at least, I felt like that watching it this time.
Chris It's like, yeah, he seemed like a noob Han Solo at the start.
Chris And then at the end, especially when he greets Lando again, and and after what he's been through, it's like, yeah, that now I feel I can see how you turned into the Han Solo from later on.
Chris Where you are a loner and you you've been betrayed, um, you're now hardened.
Chris Like the fact that he shot Beckett, you know, it's like, okay, yeah.
Chris You're you're not what you were at the start.
Chris Yeah.
Adam I did I did like the fact that that was of although he was even though he was dying.
Adam Beckett was proud of him for doing it, like, well done.
Adam Yeah.
Adam This is the first time, I think you've done something right.
Chris Listen to me.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Which which I did.
Lee And also brave casting, as well.
Lee Woody Harrelson as Beckett, and such a well-known character.
Lee such a well-known actor, sorry, to put them into that type of character, but, yeah, like, thinking about it now, once you know the character, like, who else are you going to get to play him other than Woody Harrelson?
Lee He's just perfect.
Adam I think because weirdly enough, as we were watching it, that that was the thing you were saying about like the impression side of it.
Adam Is Clare said initially, or so when we initially started watching it, she said it felt more like an impression rather than.
Adam Um, like a proper thing.
Adam And I think weirdly enough, I think what it is is that it's you get to the point where he can back up how cocky he is.
Adam And it's kind of like so those early bits, it's like, he's he is doing an impression of Han Solo, but the Han Solo that later on.
Adam Can pull that shit and pull it off.
Adam Yeah, rather than oh, no, we've we've fucked up here, we've come across.
Adam Yeah.
Adam And.
Adam But, um, yeah, I think that the, so, yeah.
Adam I I I certainly by the end of it, I think he'd really come into his own as, um, as Han.
Adam And I, um, but and like I say, him and Chewie.
Adam That's exactly what you wanted, it it feels right in so much as you do spend a bit of time with them, like just doing their shit.
Adam But the rest of the time, it's plot driven and everything else like that in the original trilogy, and then it's sort of bleeding into the most recent, uh, set.
Adam But.
Adam Yes, that's the kind.
Adam Much the same as like with the, um, the enjoyable bits of Anakin and Obi-Wan where it's like, yeah, can we can we just have this as a series?
Adam And I wouldn't mind, you know, as it as it is, it's probably better than it's been done as a film.
Adam Because you can't really, you know, it would have made an interesting like six-part series or four-part mini series or something like that.
Adam But I think it probably does just need to be there's enough in there that it's right.
Adam And I think you probably would have overstretched if you'd have gone to a series or something like that.
Adam Without and and in essence, it's you also have the slight, um, you also have the slight disadvantage of any form of prequel where it's like.
Adam Well, I know who's going to survive.
Lee Yeah.
Adam You know, and strangely enough, and I think this is again, this was something that thinking watching Solo has made me realize with the prequels.
Adam Is just the fact that it's sort of, um, you put so many people into the prequels that we know that it's like, that kind of eliminates jeopardy of half the cast. We know Yoda lives, we know Obi-Wan lives, we know, well, we know in in effect, Anakin lives.
Adam We know, you know, there's no one sort of it's C-3PO and R2, you know, they're not going to actually be like.
Chris You can't build up true, um, tension really.
Adam Because it's like with this, I mean, you had like, I mean.
Adam Um.
Adam Yeah, no, she's been in she's been in some brilliant films.
Adam But I mean, like, I mean, obviously, she's great, but also the character of Val, you know, but also the fact that you do wipe out Beckett's crew essentially as the thing goes on, and, yeah, that again, it's back to like with Val and stuff like that where it's like, oh, shit, you know, the gloves are off.
Adam You can this isn't going to end well for every person.
Adam Again, most people don't care about the do you do see it a lot in the later films.
Adam You know, there'll be flying next wing or whatever, there are two units gets shot and they just go, oh, bollocks, I've got to do it on myself, like, no attachment, it just functional, it's like a Lexa, I'll just go and buy another one if it fucks up, like it's not the end of the world.
Adam But, yeah.
Adam He's he's real attachment to real quite a nice thing.
Adam I I really enjoyed.
Adam I mean, and obviously, um, Donald Glover's fantastic.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Oh, yeah, the only thing the only thing that was missing is because obviously, you know, in in his.
Adam This is an interesting, there's there's a factoid.
Adam For the you may not know.
Adam Obviously, he is childish Gambino, um, his his musician's name.
Adam Uh.
Adam Do you know where that name came from?
Adam There was a website on the Internet where you used to be, still there, I think, but it used to be a go to name dot com.
Adam And you would go in there and put your name in and it would give you a Wu Tang style.
Adam Name, so like, you know, like Method Man, Inspector Deck and stuff like that, and I think mine mine was something like mine was something like shouting comedian or something like that.
Adam But it and yeah, and that's where his name came from, childish Gambino was the name that came back off of off of Wu name.
Adam And it's like, yeah.
Adam So I would have liked to obviously have seen him perform his hit single.
Adam Uh, this is Corellia.
Adam But, you know.
Adam That didn't that didn't happen, um, and that's that's literally the joke I've got.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Actually, the other joke I had was.
Adam Um, I did think of Step Brothers when I saw the other Wookie mask.
Adam You know.
Adam Mine's not movie quality, but that's okay.
Adam I just realized.
Adam Strange call back.
Adam Donald Glover is, of course, in Homecoming.
Adam Uh.
Adam I was just talking about Spider-Man not long ago.
Adam He plays the the guy who turns up to buy the dodgy tech, who Peter Parker tracks down in a car park and basically badly threatens him and then hang cuffs him to the boot of his own car and then pisses off and leaves him.
Adam Although.
Adam Although keeping the canisters cold, I'm putting that down as the computer game moment.
Adam Yeah.
Adam Because that that feels like, oh, you've got to do this, you've got to do that.
Adam Oh, they're getting too.
Adam Oh, for fuck's sake.
Adam Can't we just skip this level and get on with some more shooting?
Adam Yeah.
Adam But.
Adam But no.
Adam That's.
Adam Definitely.
Adam And also.
Adam And talking to weapons as well, um, obviously Han gets his blaster.
Adam You know.
Adam And full credit to Claire because it was her who said, how many of those have been lost over the years?
Adam And she said, yeah, no, this yeah, and and at that point, I was like, yeah.
Adam Why are we changing to paper straws?
Adam Because you know what is choking the fucking oceans is just thousands and thousands of Han Solo blasters.
Adam And Stormtrooper blasters that we all fucking lost.
Adam And one sells them for 50 notes on eBay.
Adam Yes.
Adam I bet he's on I bet Elon Musk bought it.
Adam And he just rubs his nuts on it every day.
Adam Doesn't doesn't even like Star Wars.
Adam He just does it, you know, because.
Adam Yeah.
Adam He's.
Adam He's he's driven Lee away.
Adam He's driven him away.
Adam But that has actually revolted people in this room.
Adam Yeah, this is this is.
Adam This is getting out of hand, yeah.
Adam So, right.
Adam The scores are in for Solo.
Adam Solo, 33 and a half Wookie pups out of 40.
Adam Which means that Solo is sitting at the top of the total pole at the moment.
Adam Solo has.
Adam Outfoxed the entire of the prequels trilogy, um.
Adam Possibly due to the fact that someone who cared was involved.
Adam And, uh, and a lot of good actors.
Adam I don't know.
Adam But, yes.
Adam So.
Adam Um, that's that's that for this this this Mos Eisley Happy Hour this week.
Adam And next week we're still flying sideways as we move into Rogue One.
Adam Yeah.
Adam A Star Wars Story.
Adam And, uh, yeah, I haven't seen I haven't seen this since the cinema.
Adam So I am I am looking forward to this.
Adam Because it's got fucking Darth Vader in it, I'm happy now, come on.
Adam I mean, we are what we've been doing here is the cruel equivalent of.
Adam TV shows, you know, it's like, oh, you've got it's no, you've got to stick with it.
Adam Series three.
Adam It gets amazing and we've done we've done much the same thing, we're like, honestly, Darth Vader's coming.
Adam He is.
Adam He is.
Adam You're going to get Darth Vader.
Adam Yeah.
Adam How many hours so far, but there we are.
Adam Well.
Adam Uh, I would like to thank, uh, thank you, gentle mens, for, uh, joining us.
Adam There we are.
Adam So it only remains to say.
Adam Uh, may the force could be with you.
Adam And, uh, good evening and good night.
Lee Night.
Adam Good night.
Adam All right.
