AdamUm, gentlemen, we shall before we crack in, has anyone been watching.
AdamOr getting involved in a Star Warsy way, uh, since our last meeting, uh, Chris.
AdamWhat about you, sir?

ChrisYes.
ChrisUm, we have finished rewatching The Mandalorian, and of course I still can't say too much.
ChrisUm, but safe to say, I possibly enjoyed it even more on the second watching, because, um, I there was no distractions this time.
ChrisWe were watching it at prime time once the kids were asleep.
ChrisThere it was just straight in there and, yeah, on the big screen.
ChrisBig sounds, it was very good.
ChrisAnd, uh, I'd also read after watching it the first time, I'd read a little bit about it, and somebody suggested there's going to be a season three.
ChrisNow, I don't think this is a spoiler to discuss that.
ChrisDoes anyone else think there is?
ChrisIs it they suggested it was really obvious, and I thought, is it?
ChrisSo.
ChrisAnd watching it again, I'm still not sure.
AdamI, I have heard that they said.
AdamBecause I know I know there was to be something else continue from it.
ChrisDefinitely something else, but.
AdamBut.
ChrisIt looked like it was going to be a totally different.

AdamSo all right, well, that's definitely running separate to this.

AdamSo, because I think there's going to be a big time jump between.

ChrisI look forward to it, yeah, I didn't look into it in any more detail, just I thought, hold on, surely there isn't.
ChrisAnd then after watching it again, I still thought, I'm still not sure.
ChrisIt's a great, I thought it was a great end, and so, yeah.

AdamI've been watching I've I'm continuing my, um, my catch up on that.
AdamUm, I've just done the I've just done the Seven Samurai episode where they turn up at Fishing Village and help them out.

AdamAnd so, you know, so I'm still quite early days.
ChrisI, I really liked the way they showed the AT-ST.
ChrisI'm sure everybody did, but, you know, proper evil looking.
AdamIt does look great.
AdamYeah.
AdamWith the because this is something and it's a weird thing, and it's it does.
AdamSort of also coalesce into Solo.
ChrisHmm.
AdamWhat what I do like with The Mandalorian and what what I do like with Solo is.
AdamThe opportunity of not necessarily doing a Star Wars film.
ChrisYeah, yeah, definitely.
AdamLike so we can do a Western using Star Wars.
ChrisYeah.
AdamOr we could do a heist movie using Star Wars or whatever like that.
AdamAnd I was thinking what they really need to do is they need to do a horror movie using Star Wars.
ChrisYeah.
AdamThere's definitely something in that.
AdamAnd certainly that AT-ST because that felt like when you're in, um, like in Dr. No where it's like, oh, everyone's afraid of the dragon and it's a armored tank with lights.
AdamYou know, it's riding around on the beach, but everyone calls it a dragon because it's got a flame thrower on it.
AdamAnd I think it's, yeah, the same sort of thing where it's just like, something coming out of the woods with glowing red eyes, and, yeah, and they've already shown that they've already sort of flagged it by saying, oh, you know, this has come this way.
AdamBut it still looked impressive coming through the crashing through the trees at them, definitely.
AdamUm, because and that was the one thing that did I was thinking is that, you know, they there is so many other genres that I'd like to see.
ChrisHmm.
AdamLike them tackle or not necessarily genres, but just stories and you can do them outside of the saga.
ChrisYeah, it's potentially all there.
ChrisYou know, because the whole the universe is so big, they could bring in all sorts, yeah, definitely.
ChrisUm, and just briefly, um, we started watching Rebels with my son.
ChrisUm, so we've seen episode one, which, yeah, so far he was definitely entertained, and I was happy watching it.
AdamThat's the animated one.
LeeOh, yeah.
ChrisYeah, that's it. I mean, on top, you know, after having watched The Mandalorian, things, you know, there's a contrast.
ChrisIt's it's not quite up to that level, but it's still, yeah, very good for something that's obviously aimed more at kids.
AdamSo, is is it better than the eighties and nineties Ewoks cartoon?
ChrisI haven't seen those, so I can't comment on that yet.
AdamAll right, well.
AdamBelieve me, you are not missing much.
AdamThat also suddenly I did suddenly think in the week, I was like, suddenly out of nowhere I remembered that there was the cartoon Droids as well.
AdamWith C-3PO and R2 and I was like, I can't even.
AdamI can't even begin to remember because it was, oh, look, people have done Ewoks, they've done this.
AdamAnd it's like, well, it's all Star Wars for a start, and also this seems a bit more, well, a bit less shit.
AdamIt's the politest way of putting it, I think.
LeeIt's the way it's not bad.
AdamDidn't Boba Fett show up in Droids?
AdamI think he might have done.
LeeI'm not sure about that, but I know Stormtroopers did.
AdamWho did, sorry?

LeeThere was random Stormtroopers in it, but.
AdamYeah.
AdamSo I knew that, yeah, there was sort of, yeah, it felt more that it had a link because basically the Ewoks one was gummy bears but with a brand name that wasn't Star Wars.
AdamYou know.
LeeYeah.
AdamYeah.
AdamSo, uh, Lee, have you been doing anything.
AdamStar Warsy related other than polishing your absolutely superb lightsaber?
LeeUm.
LeeNo.
LeeIs the short answer, I'm afraid.
LeeI'd like to have done, but I've I've just had one of those.
LeeIt sort of dawned on me on Wednesday, I was like, it can't have been two weeks since we last recorded, so what are we supposed to be covering this week?
LeeAnd I was like.
LeeShit, no, it is and I, you know, luckily I I only saw this film about.
LeeOh, maybe two months ago, which is when we were first talking about possibly doing it.
AdamAh.
LeeAnd I was still glad to go and have another opportunity to rewatch it, and Jennifer watched it as well, so that's a good thing.
LeeUm, but, yeah, no.
ChrisWas that her first watch?
LeeUh, no, no, she's seen it.
ChrisIn the cinema.
LeeSo somebody.

LeeJennifer doesn't like to rewatch things, she's one of these people once she's seen something, she's like, apart from Rocky Horror for some reason, she's like, once I've seen something, unless it's really, really exceptional.
LeeI don't need to see it, and I definitely don't need to see it again within a decade, certainly.
LeeUm.
ChrisAnd arguably she's not the biggest Star Wars fan.
LeeNo.
LeeBut she has rewatched, she has watched all the films along with us so far.

LeeYeah, so that's a that's a sign of how much it's enjoyed in this household.

AdamHave you been have you been, uh, doing any more Star Wars studies or what have you been watching, sir?
WesleyUm, not much, I had my vaccine and it made me feel a bit rough, so.

WesleyYeah, I've had the first part, so, yeah.
WesleyAnd then I got, um, the Doctor Who game on the Oculus.
WesleySo I've been playing that.

AdamJust you combine combine the rough feeling with the vaccine with the Oculus and you know, that'd been a fairly trippy evening, I'd imagine.
WesleyI first noticed it, I'd had the vaccine, I'd come back, I did stuff for a couple of hours and I was fine.
WesleyThen all of a sudden, I put that on, I was trying to dodge some Weeping Angels and then all of a sudden, I just felt sick as a dog.
WesleyAnd that was it, three days.
ChrisYou thinking these Weeping Angels, they're really done something with these.
ChrisThey are working.
AdamThis this is this is impressive game, it's made all the hair stand up on the back of me arse.
AdamYeah.

AdamNow, obviously, this is my first experience of having seen the film, um, who saw it at the cinema?

LeeChris and I saw it together, it came out on my birthday.

LeeWhat more did I need?
LeeAnd it was the week after Deadpool 2 had come out.
LeeSo I booked my birthday off work.
LeeI went with Chris in the I actually, no, I didn't.
LeeI went with Chris and we watched Deadpool 2.
ChrisYeah, that's right.
LeeThen Chris left and I went in on my own and watched Solo.
LeeUm, and I said, if it hadn't been my birthday and I know that Jennifer was cooking my favorite meal, I would have gone back to the foyer, bought a second ticket and gone in and rewatched it again.
LeeSpoiler alert, I love the shit out of this film.
AdamYeah.
AdamSo, I, yes.
AdamAnd funnily enough because this this was something that I'd been.
AdamWell.
AdamSo, it's not that long ago, it's 2018.
ChrisYeah.
AdamAnd a year that I am going to call plastics and poisons, because that seems to be the two main issues that were going on at the time.
AdamYou've got Donald Trump in charge of the States.
AdamTheresa May, not that one, is the Prime Minister here.
AdamAnd, uh, yes, so, over the course of the year, the UK and other countries start banning the use of plastic micro beads in cosmetics, and then that later extends to straws and Q-Tips.
AdamAlthough it doesn't matter that McDonald's have given you a paper straw now because you've still got a plastic lid, work that one out. So, you know, I don't know what the plastic lid, that's absolutely fine, turtles can swallow that, no problem.

AdamUm, SpaceX conducts its maiden flight of the Falcon Heavy rocket, and I can only assume that, you know, that that has a bearing on.
AdamYou've called it the Falcon and it goes into space, we know what's happening here, guys, come on.
AdamSo, I mean it's it's one it's one it's wonderful when nerds are allowed to nerds or geeks are allowed to go full reign.

AdamThe sugar tax on drinks comes into force.
AdamIn March, former Russian double agent Sergey Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, are poisoned in Salisbury with the nerve agent Novichok. A week a week later, political asylum seeker, Russian businessman Nikolai Glushkov, whose extradition back to Russia was refused in 2017, is found inexplicably strangled in his London home.
AdamThe Russian government and the Kremlin deny all involvement.
AdamAnd that's fair enough, because it's clearly the fucking Dagenham Girl Pipers, isn't it?

AdamUm, gives it to his partner, she sprays it on her wrist and becomes immediately ill and dies within 15 minutes.
AdamAnd the bottle turns out to be the, uh, what they've been using to spread the Novichok about.
AdamAnd the bottle actually contained enough poison to kill thousands.
AdamSo, yeah, there we go.

AdamI tell you, actually, if you do want to laugh, though, the two guys who they suspected of doing that, there's a lovely interview with them where, why were you in Salisbury at this time?

AdamI mean, he said Super Poopers 2, but that's a totally different film that came out a different year.

AdamHang Ups, Black Mirror Bandersnatch, which obviously was a bit of a game changer that and then the game never turned up.

AdamThe Circle and Big the Big Nasty Show came on.

AdamUm, but also Robot Wars, Room 101 and The X Factor finished in 2018.

AdamAnd I can honestly say with regards to The X Factor, I had a look at the music.
AdamThe singles, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, Calvin fucking Harris, Clean Pissin' Bandit.
AdamJess Poxy Glenn, it's fucking dreadful.
AdamThe albums the album charts, couldn't find a fucking thing worth mentioning.
AdamAnd I can only I can only surmise that The X Factor stopped because Simon Cowell realized he had just irrevocably fucked music.

AdamHe's like, what is the point in me pissing into this bag anymore because it is now split and gone all over them.
AdamAnd and again, what I can only describe as almost like in protest about the music charts.
AdamIn deaths, we have Mark E. Smith, Aretha Franklin.
AdamBut also Stan Lee, Stephen Hawking and Ken Dodd.
AdamWhich admittedly is a panel at Comic Con that I would have loved to have seen.
AdamAnd that is 2018.

AdamSo, my initial thoughts on this because I hadn't seen Solo and there was a part of me that was like, right, if I remember rightly, there was obviously this came out after Last Jedi.
AdamAnd Last Jedi obviously was a massively sort of divisive film in that lots of people were just like, this is shit, this is not Star Wars.
AdamAnd then it got to the point of.
AdamWe're starting a petition online to get them to remake it because it wasn't.
AdamIt's like.
AdamWho A, who the fuck are you?
AdamB, who the fuck do you think you are?
AdamAnd C, get fucking real.
AdamYou know.
AdamAnd I think and there was a part of me and I think then Solo came out, which was a lot better received.
AdamUh, amongst the Star Wars fan base.
AdamAnd so there was a part of me that was like, did I not watch Solo because I was just very pissed off that it was like, well, if all these people who were fucking moaning about Last Jedi liked it, and then they really liked Solo, I'm not going to watch it.
AdamAnd then I looked at the release date and realized it was like five days before Ted was born.
AdamAnd bearing in mind that like it's only this year that really I've been able to get back on track of actually watching anything.
AdamIn any considered way.
AdamWithout having the excuse of a podcast.
LeeYeah.
AdamIs the best way of putting that.
AdamYeah.
AdamThe the fact and both me and Clare were saying this that it was just like, yeah, this is like the first sort of time in Ted's since since Ted's been around where that has been a possibility.
AdamSomewhere between the child is up every three hours and, Jesus Christ, he slept all night, why am I still tired?

AdamSo I was then sort of like, okay, so, yeah, that was clearly that's clearly the main reason why I hadn't seen Solo before.
AdamAnd getting the opportunity to watch it, I can see.
AdamYes, I mean, it is probably better than Last Jedi.
AdamBut certainly, I can understand it's a fucking Star Wars film.
AdamIt it everything feels right.
AdamIt has that Mandalorian thing.
AdamOf just like, oh, no, this is clearly the this clearly is the right universe.
LeeYeah.
AdamYeah.
AdamYou know, I'm not in Star Trek, I'm not in something else, this is this is the Star Wars universe.
AdamAnd it's beyond like knowing planet names.
AdamOr stuff like that.
AdamIt's like, yeah, we all know that Han Solo was a smuggler from Corellia.
AdamBut it's sort of like, you know, that wasn't the big deal about it, the fact that it felt like it was part of the Star Wars universe.
LeeNo, yeah.
AdamYeah.
AdamAnd.
AdamYeah.
AdamAnd so I think it's like I say, I'm I really like this thing now of they can do any form of film within the Star Wars universe.
AdamAnd I was sitting there thinking this and the one the one film I was like, oh, yeah, you could do definitely do horror.
AdamUm, I reckon you could do quite a good sci-fi film out of Star Wars.
AdamYou know.
AdamSomething about it.
AdamPossibly, yeah, some something like that.
AdamYou know, one of them spacey things.
AdamUm, and then I was like, oh, I'd love to see a see a Star Wars comedy.
AdamAnd then I was like, no.
AdamBecause that is that that has always been the blocking for me.
AdamIs there is, I don't know what it is and I'll be please I'll be so pleased to go back and watch the original trilogy because they have funny moments.
AdamBut it's sort of in my head, it's born out of character.
AdamRather than let's create a funny character.
LeeYeah.
AdamYou know, I mean, C-3PO is clearly a comic sort of.
ChrisIt is light relief.
AdamYeah.
ChrisAnd you laugh at him a bit, but, yeah, it's not quite comedy.
AdamHe's.
AdamYeah.
AdamSo, and the solo.
ChrisThey tried with Jar Jar Binks and failed miserably.
AdamYeah.
AdamYeah.
LeeSolo originally was aiming to be like a buddy cop film.
LeeAnd that's why it went for a change of director and, well, it was basically rewritten from the ground up, using only a few shots of what originally was shot.
ChrisThat's interesting, I didn't realize until watching it this time that it was Ron Howard who directed it.
LeeYeah.
ChrisSo it's almost could have been as close to a comedy as.
ChrisUh, but it is definitely very lighthearted on on the whole, I think there's a few bits where it gets deeper.
AdamIt I think it gets deeper where it needs to be necessary.
ChrisHmm.
AdamAnd the one thing that I came away with this because at first I was very as I'm watching it, I'm very unsure and it's obviously the thing that it's, you know, Han Solo is a beloved character portrayed by.
ChrisIt's it's risky.
AdamYeah.
AdamAnd I'm so and but and it is it something that George Lucas has just ingrained in me, I don't know, but as soon as Chewbacca turned up, I was all in.
AdamBecause because I got Han and Chewie from them.
ChrisHmm.
LeeYeah.

AdamPhineas and Ferb, if you like Doctor Who, watch Phineas and Ferb, and also the amount of times that like.
AdamMost of the cast of Rocky Horror have been in it.

ChrisI didn't know much about Phineas and Ferb and I'd sort of seen it, you know, flicking through.
ChrisUm, whatever it was on, might have been Netflix at one point.
ChrisAnyway, and then I saw the Star Wars version they did.
ChrisAnd so I said to Toby, look, you can't watch Star Wars yet because it's still a bit too adult, this was several years ago.
ChrisI said, but look, let's give this a go.
ChrisAnd it was just perfect because it entertained him because he wasn't really that into Star Wars at the time, but it had enough of Star Wars in it, and just I thought they did such a good way of spoofing it in while still sort of feeling like it was came from a, you know, a good place.
ChrisSo I I think that's definitely worth putting on your list to watch with Ted at some point.
AdamWell, definitely.

LeeI felt the same, like I I felt genuine trepidation going into the cinema to watch this, because I was like.
LeeI really like this character, I really like what Disney have done with the Star Wars films.

LeeBut, yeah, I was like, this could be, is it what I was worried about was, it was a lesser known actor as well, Arden Ehrenreich.
ChrisYeah.
LeeAnd I was concerned that he might do effectively, we were going to have two hours and 15 minutes of somebody doing an impression.
LeeOf which was what worried me.
LeeBut what I felt with this was, he managed to get his mannerisms and his facial expressions and his movements, and he got him so perfect, but he made them feel entirely natural.
LeeNone none of it felt staged or put on, but he he he felt like him 10 years before, so perfectly.
LeeI was absolutely blown away by his performance.
ChrisI think you're right about that. I think he also kind of it progressed over the film.
ChrisIn a at least, I felt like that watching it this time.
ChrisIt's like, yeah, he seemed like a noob Han Solo at the start.
ChrisAnd then at the end, especially when he greets Lando again, and and after what he's been through, it's like, yeah, that now I feel I can see how you turned into the Han Solo from later on.
ChrisWhere you are a loner and you you've been betrayed, um, you're now hardened.
ChrisLike the fact that he shot Beckett, you know, it's like, okay, yeah.
ChrisYou're you're not what you were at the start.
ChrisYeah.
AdamI did I did like the fact that that was of although he was even though he was dying.
AdamBeckett was proud of him for doing it, like, well done.

AdamI think because weirdly enough, as we were watching it, that that was the thing you were saying about like the impression side of it.
AdamIs Clare said initially, or so when we initially started watching it, she said it felt more like an impression rather than.
AdamUm, like a proper thing.
AdamAnd I think weirdly enough, I think what it is is that it's you get to the point where he can back up how cocky he is.
AdamAnd it's kind of like so those early bits, it's like, he's he is doing an impression of Han Solo, but the Han Solo that later on.
AdamCan pull that shit and pull it off.
AdamYeah, rather than oh, no, we've we've fucked up here, we've come across.
AdamYeah.
AdamAnd.
AdamBut, um, yeah, I think that the, so, yeah.
AdamI I I certainly by the end of it, I think he'd really come into his own as, um, as Han.
AdamAnd I, um, but and like I say, him and Chewie.
AdamThat's exactly what you wanted, it it feels right in so much as you do spend a bit of time with them, like just doing their shit.
AdamBut the rest of the time, it's plot driven and everything else like that in the original trilogy, and then it's sort of bleeding into the most recent, uh, set.

AdamYes, that's the kind.
AdamMuch the same as like with the, um, the enjoyable bits of Anakin and Obi-Wan where it's like, yeah, can we can we just have this as a series?
AdamAnd I wouldn't mind, you know, as it as it is, it's probably better than it's been done as a film.
AdamBecause you can't really, you know, it would have made an interesting like six-part series or four-part mini series or something like that.
AdamBut I think it probably does just need to be there's enough in there that it's right.
AdamAnd I think you probably would have overstretched if you'd have gone to a series or something like that.
AdamWithout and and in essence, it's you also have the slight, um, you also have the slight disadvantage of any form of prequel where it's like.
AdamWell, I know who's going to survive.

AdamYou know, and strangely enough, and I think this is again, this was something that thinking watching Solo has made me realize with the prequels.
AdamIs just the fact that it's sort of, um, you put so many people into the prequels that we know that it's like, that kind of eliminates jeopardy of half the cast. We know Yoda lives, we know Obi-Wan lives, we know, well, we know in in effect, Anakin lives.
AdamWe know, you know, there's no one sort of it's C-3PO and R2, you know, they're not going to actually be like.
ChrisYou can't build up true, um, tension really.
AdamBecause it's like with this, I mean, you had like, I mean.
AdamUm.
AdamYeah, no, she's been in she's been in some brilliant films.
AdamBut I mean, like, I mean, obviously, she's great, but also the character of Val, you know, but also the fact that you do wipe out Beckett's crew essentially as the thing goes on, and, yeah, that again, it's back to like with Val and stuff like that where it's like, oh, shit, you know, the gloves are off.
AdamYou can this isn't going to end well for every person.
AdamAgain, most people don't care about the do you do see it a lot in the later films.
AdamYou know, there'll be flying next wing or whatever, there are two units gets shot and they just go, oh, bollocks, I've got to do it on myself, like, no attachment, it just functional, it's like a Lexa, I'll just go and buy another one if it fucks up, like it's not the end of the world.
