1:43 Unknown But yeah, so as I mentioned, the reason I've never seen this film is because I am a medium, a sensible level of claustrophobic.

1:54 Unknown Yes. So again, a bit like Red Shoes. This is my first time watching this. I finished it 25 minutes ago. I thought it was a brilliant film. I thought it was really well done.

2:30 Unknown For the weekend it came out, I was like a really avid follower of like Total Film and Empire at the time.

2:41 Unknown It happened to be in like the bigger screen. There was no one there because no one else knew what it was.

2:52 Unknown And I was just absolutely floored by it.

2:55 Unknown But I think the opening half of the film is probably more effective than the second half.

3:01 Unknown This falls into that category with a lot of Stephen King films, Stephen King adaptions fall in for me, which is, oh, thank fuck the monsters have shown up.

3:21 Unknown You know, you get it with Stephen King because it's always like, oh, I go to school with some psychotic greases and every adult's a nonce.

3:35 Unknown And similarly with this, you know, it's a fucking, this would be a gruelling film if it wasn't a horror film.

4:04 Unknown And then, of course, introducing the young girl.

4:09 Unknown But, you know, it reminded me of Hereditary where it subverts your expectation.

4:16 Unknown And I noticed they do that throughout this where you're like, you don't quite know where they're heading for.

4:21 Unknown So, and when it hits, it's awful.

4:27 Unknown The first five minutes, just like, yeah, someone's going to die.

4:36 Unknown That was super quick as well.

4:38 Unknown I've never seen this bus driver before, but he's got a really bad cough and he keeps clutching his chest.

4:45 Unknown I've got to admit, if it weren't for the fact we were covering it for this, if I'd just finally bitten the bullet, because Danny's been telling me to watch it for the last 15 years.

4:56 Unknown But at that point at which they go from the large cavern into that tiny hole, yeah, I'd have turned it off.

5:48 Unknown But in a film, I quite like the choreography and sort of seeing it.

5:52 Unknown Whereas with this, it's just got that, oh, my God, it's just batshit.

5:55 Unknown And then at the end, you just have to see who's still alive, basically.

6:05 Unknown I always think stuff like that's mainly to, like, or at least partially to cover up the deficiencies in the budget.

6:22 Unknown And I think, actually, the effects, the practical effects are really, really solid for the most part in this film.

14:43 Unknown I hadn't actually thought that, but yeah, it is sort of, because that was the weird thing watching it with Claire is I'd completely forgotten that they do actually do a bit of explanation and say, oh, they're blind and they can only hunt by sound and stuff like that.

14:58 Unknown But some of those bits, and it's really weird because you'd think it would get repetitive, but they just managed to do that of people hiding from the crawlers by just being quiet.

15:29 Unknown So I kept waiting for it to suddenly realise the fire was right next to it and something was occurring.

15:36 Unknown So it did a really good job of adding tension.

15:39 Unknown You know, even if you try to think outside the box, it somehow made it more tense.

15:44 Unknown I really like the fact that the crawlers have like a little family dynamic as well.

15:52 Unknown Because I think that was something else that Claire was expecting.

16:06 Unknown And then I think that was like about two seconds later, she's kicked that child to death.

16:19 Unknown Because that was the thing that I've watched it with Claire is her first time viewing it.

19:14 Unknown And it just feels a bit like a male writing female friendship wrong.

19:19 Unknown Beth Stein action, for example, being to take revenge on Juno and tell Sarah about the affair,

19:24 Unknown the idea that any of it would matter under the circumstances,

19:26 Unknown and comparatively look at a film like Blink twice, and that's how you write women in danger.

20:36 Unknown And while it's very rare to have a film that 100% passes the Bechdel test written by and directed by a man,

20:43 Unknown maybe that's where that different perspective might have made that a little bit more realistic or it might have taken the story in a different way.
