2:47 Lee we've all had fun until now. I've enjoyed this film. I'm keen to see what you guys made of it on a rewatch.

2:59 Lee How'd you get on with this?

3:01 Chris I I remembered kind of not liking it as much as the other two.

3:07 Jennifer Yes.

3:08 Chris Right?

3:09 Chris And I was I was thinking to myself, why? Because I thought I remembered what happened in it.

3:14 Chris Turns out I didn't, but.

3:15 Lee No.

3:16 Chris Right, somehow, I completely did not know that they were aliens and slash robots if they are or not robots, but yeah.

3:26 Jennifer Does that mean slash actually?

3:39 Chris All I remembered was the pubs and I think what I didn't like about it was Simon Peg's character is kind of he's much more unlikable

3:49 Chris to begin for at least for quite a lot of it

3:53 Chris than he is in the others, so it but it's like it was also an evolution in a way of his acting.

3:58 Chris So he did act well in it, but yeah, so it just I guess it must have left a memory of,

4:05 Chris But as I was watching it, I was thinking, it's kind of getting better and better as it goes through.

4:12 Chris And and yeah, and actually by the end,

4:14 Chris I was really enjoying it.

4:16 Chris And I was like, it's great.

4:17 Chris It is it's a sci-fi.

4:18 Chris And they have actually got some interesting aspects to it,

4:21 Chris especially at the very end.

4:26 Chris But that's where for me it really, okay, you know, I accept this, this is this is got some really interesting parts.

4:31 Chris Yeah, so so I did actually end up really enjoying it.

4:34 Chris But for quite a bit, I was thinking,

4:36 Chris oh, it's not it's not there.

4:37 Chris Like the other two are just so good.

4:41 Chris And I probably do still think Shaun of the Dead probably is my favorite.

4:47 Lee I was just going to say, before we cut over to Adam, yeah, I was just going to say that that was my experience with it is, I remember seeing it and being mildly disappointed and therefore I didn't go back for ages.

4:57 Lee And then when I did, after, yeah, maybe eight, nine years, I suddenly went, oh, actually, no, once you put a bit of distance between the other two,

5:04 Lee Yeah, then all of a sudden, I saw it for all of its, its great features. Yeah, and I was like, oh, excellent.

5:13 Lee I've now got I've now can really enjoy it. So.

5:20 Adam Yes, I mean, I saw this once before.

5:23 Adam And I think it was at Lee's, Lee.

5:27 Adam which was the only time I saw it and I know that there was,

5:32 Adam I remember sort of we were all talking about it at the time.

5:36 Adam And your brother Dean said, he thought that Simon Peg and Nick Frost were playing the wrong characters.

5:45 Adam In that they're sort of like, you know, basically Simon Peg has the Nick Frost character in this because Nick Frost character is kind of feckless, sort of, you know, useless or pain in the ass.

5:53 Adam In sort of in sort of not necessarily major ways, but enough that you sort of like,

5:57 Adam but yeah, and we were sort of like, did Simon Peg want to have all the good lines?

6:05 Adam Because usually, you know, it's like Nick Frost is the funniest thing in Shaun of the Dead and possibly the funniest thing in Hot Fuzz.

6:14 Adam And it's almost like, no, I want that.

6:17 Adam Can I have the the feature role of the ne'-do-well with good lines?

6:23 Adam I don't know.

6:24 Adam But and I, yeah, I seem to think that was how we were talking about it at the time.

6:27 Adam Now, obviously, like you said, Chris, I've seen it once before.

6:33 Adam And up until our discussion of well, actually, up until our discussion of Shaun of the Dead, I was perfectly prepared to say I remembered this film.

6:45 Adam whilst discussing Shaun of the Dead and not remembering that Kevin Eldon is in Hot Fuzz,

6:55 Adam I was then like, but I've seen Hot Fuzz quite a lot.

6:59 Adam Not recently, but I've seen it quite a lot.

7:01 Adam So I was like, why did I not remember that?

7:03 Adam So I was perfectly prepared that this could be an utterly new viewing.

7:10 Adam Yeah.

7:11 Adam You know, almost so I was but I I did remember I I remember I mean, I remembered the the essentials of it,

7:17 Adam but none of the dialogue, so the dialogue was still brand new and funny and stuff. But I still I know what you mean.

7:28 Adam I still hang on to that thing that maybe Simon Peg just isn't charming enough to play the Rogish Nick Frost character.

7:38 Chris Messy.

7:41 Adam He comes over more as a dick than a lovable dick.

7:49 Lee I'm not sure they could have played them the other way around that like if you'd switched their roles, I don't think they would have worked.

7:55 Lee So I think they've done it the right way around.

7:59 Adam It's they are playing the right roles.

8:07 Chris I almost felt like if if I was watching it in a cinema with a group of drunk people, I would have appreciated the first major half of it more.

8:18 Lee before I throw it over to Jennifer, my so my first viewing of this, I it was one of my mentioned days at the cinema when I used to book a day off work.

8:29 Lee and I watched like a 10 a m. screening of Despicable Me 2.

8:33 Lee And then 1 o'clock or something, I watched Pacific Rim, then I went and sat in the pub with Jennifer and Chris Drains and had some and a few beers.

8:42 Lee And then we got a bottle of rum and then we went in and watched this for the last screening and.

8:47 Jennifer Doesn't sound like me.

8:49 Adam Nah.

8:50 Lee yeah, and yeah, and that's what I yeah, so I was in the right. I was drunk and there was a load of us and we did have a really good scream.

8:57 Lee But yeah, again, it was one of those I came away and went, that was a little bit disappointing, but I wasn't too disheartened.

9:02 Lee But then, yeah, like yourselves, didn't rush back to it the same way as I did with the others.

9:09 Jennifer Yes, I think something similar.

9:11 Jennifer But I wonder if it's because the other two were so good that I was I had very high expectations of this,

9:15 Jennifer which it didn't meet, whereas now going back to it, as you say,

9:18 Jennifer appreciating it for what it is, it's a good film. But I think at the time it was like, oh, they're going to do it again.

9:24 Jennifer And it's going to be almost the same but better.

9:29 Jennifer It wasn't, it was different.

9:32 Jennifer And that's probably the initial thing and as you say, yeah, not liking Simon Peg, you're like, oh, but he's sort of a guy.

9:40 Lee Well I almost felt that with him throughout this though, like.

9:44 Jennifer No, he's a twat.

9:45 Lee He's he's a twat, but it's that thing of everybody knows that guy who was the coolest person in their youth.

9:53 Lee Never sees any reason to change anything.

9:56 Lee And doesn't realize that, yeah, what's, as she says, what's charming at 17, now you're pushing 40.

10:08 Lee yeah, so like I did see him as yeah, I mean he is a dick.

10:14 Jennifer I think now maybe I appreciate it more.

10:16 Jennifer Because I think this must be the third or fourth time because we are now the old people.

10:23 Jennifer I think I probably have a little bit more sympathy for him trying to recreate that.

10:27 Jennifer Whereas maybe when we watched it, how long ago was it then? 15, 10 years?

10:33 Jennifer Yeah, we're still a bit too young and cool ourselves to really appreciate that.

10:41 Adam I think being at the being at the age that they were at or the characters are at is like, oh, no, yeah, that does it a lot of it makes a lot more sense.

10:52 Adam Because as I mean, there is the thing like sort of I was thinking about it that there's it's weird that everyone cracks on if he's because he's that much of a dick, if you see what I mean.

11:10 Adam Is that they're willing to stick it out even though.

11:14 Chris I was wondering if it was a bit of morbid curiosity,

11:17 Chris like, how how bad? We've just got to see what he's like.

11:22 Chris Like I think I I would be tempted if that'd been the situation.

11:28 Chris Like let's let's go see how awful this night can become if we just let him run things for the evening.

11:33 Chris And and and potentially they are even though their lives have gone well, they probably, you know, they're probably quite living quite sedate safe lives.

11:42 Chris And they may have just fancied a bit of a, okay, you know, so I don't know, I yeah, I was questioning that, but I kind of thought, yeah, maybe.

11:52 Chris I don't necessarily appreciate which village they've come from either.

11:58 Adam But I think weirdly, like you said, it's but not as it turns out like Paddy Constantine and Nick Frost characters aren't doing that well.

12:11 Adam You know, Paddy Constantine clearly is like sort of unfulfilled or whatever like that and then like Nick Frost says that his marriage is down the toilet.

12:20 Adam And stuff like that.

12:21 Adam So it's all but it but then curiously the two who seem to be settled and what they're doing are the ones that become blanks.

12:28 Lee Yes.

12:29 Adam So there isn't an element of that message there.

12:32 Chris Yeah, no, I assume there probably is more more message going on than I'd necessarily realized the first viewing.

12:37 Chris And yeah, started to to perhaps appreciate that this time.

12:45 Adam Is that like Billy don't be a hero? Because if that's like the B side of that one.

12:59 Lee I mean, I yeah, I've picked up on it more in my later viewings, yeah, that it is more of a metaphor for like going from doing your own thing and to yeah, to fitting into society, so when they become the blanks, it's when they basically just give up and just go into this is what I should be doing.

13:22 Lee This is how I should be and not, you know, not wanting to tear it up and go your own way and have your own.

13:29 Lee But yeah.

13:30 Lee And I sort of think I saw that more and in the later viewings.

13:33 Chris Yeah.

13:35 Lee Yeah.

13:36 Chris And even seems to be almost like South Park idea of essentially.

13:40 Chris Every option is bad.

13:41 Chris Because really, you know,

13:43 Chris having the aliens is bad at the end, but also getting rid of them is bad.

13:46 Chris It's like you kind of everything can be good or bad, just going to extremes is probably not what you want to do.

13:51 Chris You just got to be aware of when the limit is.

13:54 Jennifer Yeah.

13:54 Jennifer Reach.

13:55 Jennifer I think I was less upset by the very, very end this time because I think initially I wanted it to finish on the sort of high almost like they're driving off into the sunset.

14:02 Jennifer And I felt like the end bit was the sort of afterthought.

14:06 Jennifer I didn't mind it quite so much this time, maybe because I was ready for it.

14:10 Jennifer But it felt a bit like, do we need this?

14:13 Jennifer What do you think?

14:13 Chris I quite liked.

14:17 Adam To be honest, I'd like to see more of the apocalypse.

14:22 Adam But I do like a post-apocalyptic film.

14:24 Adam If they if they were to do like, if they'd have done it almost like this is the this is like the opening monologue.

14:32 Adam And then just shown us the the post-apocalyptic world as a comedy.

14:41 Adam But and I I can't help but feel that this is one of the main problems with it is that.

14:47 Adam It starts off and obviously you've got some you know, obviously the music's all appropriate for them at school and everything else like that.

15:01 Adam The fact that it ends and the credits and it's bloody Happy Hour by The House Martins.
